Your Questions, Answered
Planning a stay in Zanzibar often comes with questions about health, climate, culture, and safety. Below you will find clear and honest answers to help you feel fully prepared and at ease before your journey.
Do I need vaccinations for Zanzibar?
For most travelers visiting Zanzibar, no special vaccinations are required.
A yellow fever vaccination is only necessary if you are arriving from, or have recently traveled through, a country where yellow fever is endemic. For direct international arrivals, it is generally not required.
We always recommend checking the latest travel health guidelines before your trip for personal peace of mind.
Is malaria a concern in Zanzibar?
Malaria exists in some parts of Tanzania, but in Zanzibar it is very rare.
Malaria prophylaxis is generally not required for most travelers staying on the island. In the very uncommon case of symptoms resembling flu (such as fever, chills, or fatigue), rapid malaria testing is easily available and can be performed immediately.
Effective treatment is available locally, and when addressed early, malaria is fully treatable.
What about mosquitoes?
Mosquito presence is generally low thanks to the constant ocean breeze.
At the hotel, we provide mosquito protection for rooms. We recommend using it before bedtime for maximum comfort. Keeping doors and windows closed afterwards helps ensure a peaceful night.
Most guests experience very comfortable sleeping conditions.
What is the weather like in Zanzibar?
Zanzibar has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, typically between 28°C and 32°C.

What are the tides like on the East Coast?
Green Ocean Zanzibar is located on the east coast, where tidal changes are very visible and part of daily island life.
The tides are influenced by the moon and change approximately every six hours.
During low tide, the ocean can retreat far out, especially around full and new moon phases. This creates a unique experience where you can walk out onto the ocean floor and explore coral formations and marine life.
A helpful local tip: when you see fishermen heading back to shore, it’s a good sign that the tide is about to return. The water can come back quite quickly, so it’s best to follow their lead.
How do I respect local culture in Zanzibar?
Zanzibar has a rich, predominantly Muslim culture known for its warmth and hospitality.
When visiting villages or local areas, we recommend dressing respectfully by covering shoulders and knees.
Within hotel areas and on the beach, you are free to wear beachwear and relaxed clothing. Respectful coexistence between locals and visitors is part of the island’s beautiful culture.
